Anyone who lives in Union County can sign the petition and have it be effective. So far the petition has received over 9,000 signatures!

ReplyDeleteMany of us understand the problems of a growing county and have followed the financial lawsuit do to the counties withholding of due moneys to the school district.
However, redistricting 1000s of families is not the answer. This is going to hurt the Students and their performance as well as the Teachers the most. Parents will be forced to be less involved in assisting Teachers, volunteering in programs and oversight of their Students do to distance to the schools especially middle and high schools. Lets remember that most households both parents work or a single parent will face a even tougher challenge.
Also, all the home buyers that have invested in to Union County could be severely hurt by the Redistricting and will be punished for the Counties lack of for site to expend or build new schools in due time. All new comers that invested in our county are paying property and income taxes in Union County and NC. To most Families it is more important to stay in the current schools and deal with a transitional situation of bigger classes, year round school schedules and temporary classrooms however keeping the communities together and driving distances for working families at a minimum.
One of the big concerns would be the additional long driving distances to the schools for so many families, which will overload in some areas the union county road system. Also to consider, older high-school students, minors, will also drive more miles on a daily bases, which sadly will result in more accidents.
Has any one thought about the extra distances driven by 1000s of families and school busses and the impact on the environment?
