Public Hearing

Last night we had a great representation for Millbridge. Out of 50 available speaking slots we had 15! Way to go Millbridge! If you missed the meeting but would like to hear what your neighbors had to say here is the link:

Millbridge has two speakers at the beginning but the rest of us come on after the two hour mark.

This is extremely IMPORTANT!!! We need everyone able to attend the public hearing on Thursday and willing to speak to call Candy Stufflebeam and get on the list. Even if you are not comfortable speaking please come to the meeting and support your neighbors. Wear red if you have it!

Talking Points

- Our neighborhood Millbridge is very concerned about the proposed redistricting maps. Our message to the Board of Education is to Keep Millbridge together in our current neighborhood schools in the Kensington and Cuthbertson clusters.

- The proposed redistricting map would have the greatest detrimental impact on Millbridge parents and students. As drawn, the line splits our community - making Millbridge the only neighborhood being divided under this proposal.

- Additionally, the proposed maps would reassign some Millbridge students to the Parkwood cluster at middle and high schools nearly 11 miles away from home. Our current schools are only about 3 miles away.

- This change would mean Millbridge students have the longest travel distance from any neighborhood in the Cuthbertson cluster to their reassigned school.

- I am very concerned about extremely long commutes and bus times, as well as the impact this would have on parents' involvement within the schools. Such as being able to get to their kids activities and sporting events.

- The proposed map is unfair to Millbridge. We also find it inconsistent with the Board's policies to not divide residential developments by school assignment and to minimize travel and busing times.

- As parents and Millbridge residents, we value our neighborhood schools. The original Millbridge developer actually donated the land within the community for Kensington Elementary School.

- In fact, a new road is being built this year in our community that will allow for better connectivity and access to Kensington Elementary School.

- Millbridge families thrive on our connectedness and close friendships with our neighbors. If the board determines redistricting is the best long term solution, we strongly urge them to revise the maps and keep Millbridge together in our current schools.
